1. видеть кого лицом к лицу (to be) very near to (some person who inspires fear, trepidation etc in one, or by extension death):

3. стоять, столкнуться, соприкоснуться и т.п. с чем лицом к лицу (to be, find o.s. etc) facing (some problem, new phenomenon etc): (be <stand, come, find o.s.>) face to face (with sth.); [in refer, to difficulties only]
